NASA - Greatest Missions Blu Ray Box Set

Produced for the Discovery Channel, in association with NASA, this blu-ray box set follows on from the brilliant success of the Greatest Missions TV series, commemorating NASAs 50th Anniversary.
Epic footage from the NASA archives, combined with top notch production and the stunning quality of blu-ray, makes this a must have box-set for any space fan! Much of the original footage, including the momentous first men to walk on the Moon has been restored to really utilize the blu-ray format. Follow the amazing stories and the heroes behind the missions, with interviews of the astronauts, engineers and scientists who made them possible, as they push the boundaries to develop humankinds understanding of space.
The box set is split into four episodes;
Episode 1 – Ordinary Supermen
Travel back to 1958 when NASA was formed, and the space race between USA and the Soviet Union was on. President Kennedy ignites the dream of getting a man on the Moon within 10 years in his famous 1961 speech. This episode follows NASAs early missions including the Mercury capsule, all of which become crucial moments in NASAs history and the mission to get a man on the Moon.
Episode 2 – Friends & Rivals
Realizing that reaching the Moon will require two separate spacecrafts to join in space, NASA launches the Gemini program, setting high ambitions. 1n 1965, Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov becomes the first man to walk in space, followed closely by astronaut Ed White as the first American a few months later. Both NASA and the Soviet Union are still unable to match the challenge of docking two spacecrafts in space; the space race continues to gather pace.
Episode 3 – Landing the Eagle
Following the success of the Gemini program, in 1968 NASA sets a new mission for Apollo 8; to be the first manned space flight to the Moon. Apollo 8’s astronauts travel further than any man before, travelling 250,000 miles they become the first men to see the far side of the Moon. Apollo 11 launches on July the 16th, 1969, with hopes and dreams of a lunar landing. On the 20th of July, 1969, NASA makes history as Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins land on the Moon.
Episode 4 – The Explorers
NASA continues to push the boundaries of space travel as they send astronauts complete with lunar buggies to explore the Moon. Ambitious plans for exploration are realized with Apollo 17’s three day stay in the Sea of Serenity, but budget concerns hit NASA before they’re able to complete their final missions of the Apollo program. The search for new objectives begins…
